Wide enough for bugs to crawl around and they all arrive in perfect condition. I slapped a hungry caterpillar sticker on them and gave the out as party favors with a caterpillar made out if gumballs. They worked out great!

I have a daycare and my kids love the bug boxes. They are used every day. I've had the last set for 2 years and just 2 of them are broken. I ordered this set because I wanted to make sure I had a bug box for everyone so they wouldn't argue.

I ordered this for use in my family childcare (multi-age) program. I have 6 children ranging in age from 10 months to 3 1/2 years old. The problem with these boxes is that they are made of very fragile plastic. With my toddling toddlers, I can't count on their legs to keep them standing while they walk around with he bug catchers. As the kids are carrying them around, if they drop on the concrete pad in the back yard, they crack. If one falls on the ground and then gets stepped on (oops!), they break. I don't know how to get sturdier plastic on bug catchers, but it would be nice. Also, the plastic for the air vents is a little thin, and also snaps easily. And, as other reviewers have said, the strings don't stay attached. But, I suppose I couldn't have had my hopes that high at such a low price for 6 bug catchers. They are getting a lot of use, and my children love them. I hope they stand the test of time a little better then I expect they will!
