Fun for Preschoolers
We purchased this item for our preschool class and the kids LOVE it! We don't use the reproducible patterns, we just give the kids a basket of the "nails" and let them pound away! We can fit four kids around it so we had to borrow hammers from our tool bench area. You can replace the foam cover and ...we usually replace it only once or twice per year. Go ahead and buy the replacement when you order so you'll have it on hand! I don't agree with the age recommendation of 8 and up. I think 4 and up is better!

Poor design
The idea of this is great for kids. However, I returned this because once you begin to pound pegs through the foam and the foam becomes full of holes, it's ruined. Your child just ends up hammering the pegs through the existing holes and it takes the fun out of this activity. Not to mention that ...part of this toys purpose is to build gross and fine motor skills and when you easily pound a peg into an existing hole, well it defeats this purpose. A possible solution to improve this product is to have replacement foam that you can change after the old one becomes covered in holes. But it may not be worth it as it would be a waste of material and you would have to pay to buy replacement foam.

At first, I was not impressed with the materials (it's basically all foam with paper), but it keeps my kids engaged: the hammer and T's are thick and well made. Without the paper is even more interesting. Even though the holes are permanent, you can use these to create patterns for the kids.

Children love this item. We had order it in the past and one of our therapist asked if we could purchase another one since the children loved it so much.

I donated one to each of our self-contained special education classrooms including early childhood and two classrooms with children who have been identified as ID or on the autism spectrum. All were excited about the possibilities for fine motor work and other skills! One teacher was especially excited to be able to use it the next day with a student who enjoys building and reported that he really enjoyed pounding and removing the pegs!
Love it!

I love that this pound-a-patterns toy allows me to come purchase more foam once the foam it came with has been used to its max potential. The kids love it too!

This is a great addition to our Pre-K classroom. The children love banging the pegs to create a design. It helps develop fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination and is just plan fun. The pegs and hammers are very sturdy.
