These are so pretty; I wish they were durable too!
We created a whole exhibit around these, the Crystal Cove, at the museum, with a light table. The original set we put out started chipping and cracking within a week of having them out for play. I wrote to Discount School Supply about the issue, wondering if there was a recall I'd missed, or if I maybe just got a bad batch. They were kind enough to send a replacement set . . . it's been a couple of months now. All the original gems have been retired due to cracks and chips, and most of the replacements. We haven't seen them used by kids for anything besides stacking and examining on a light table. The room is carpeted and they are stored in a soft-sided felt bin. They just don't hold up, and unfortunately, sharp edges when broken mean they aren't safe to leave out once they crack or chip. I reserved my review until we waited to see what happened with set number 2. I am really sad these didn't hold up. There's nothing else like them available.
