I needed some new rhythm instruments for some younger children. Mine were all older wooden and painted. Little humans put things in their mouth. So I ordered these even though they said they had some small parts to check it out. I am so glad I did. This is solid plastic, not the thin easily breakable kind. Some pieces make sounds easily so the youngest toddler can use them, and others require more skill so they are a set that will grow with the children. The one stick is very thin and the end a bit too sharp for small hands that might poke themselves in the eye, and that piece could break under the right conditions. It is a piece for when get older. The bells appear to be attched very securly and they are quite large so if they came off, choking would be a challenge, but I have decided to error on the safe side and not give that piece to the toddlers either. They love the other pieces and of course they love to have grown-ups play along. Who doesn't love making music?
