Great when you have only a backyard or an open field and they are more visible than sticks or some other alternative.

The younger and older kids have fun together with the bases. They can make the playing area as big or as small as necessary for the youngest of the kids. The only thing that is an issue is the fact that if the grass is tall they can't see the bases.
