before you begin:
Gather the following materials to create these patriotic necklaces: plain wooden beads, paint, brushes, scissors, tape and yarn or cord.

To create a colorful, wearable necklace for celebrating Independence Day.

Depending on the ages, abilities and preferences of the children, they may paint each bead a single color or use multiple colors on individual beads for even more unique designs. Children may also create bracelets by following the same process with a smaller piece of yarn or cord.

Cut a length of yarn or cord for stringing the beads and place a strip of tape at one end to keep the beads from falling off.
