Our favorite thing to use these for are hats! We use dot paints to decorate and fit them over a #10 can, secure the size with colored duct tape. Our preschoolers with Special Needs love to wear them. We use the large size for our 4 year olds, the medium for the 3 year olds. We also use the smaller sizes to make tie-dye turkeys and butterflies. They're so much more fun than traditional sized coffee filters.

I use this product with a 2 year old group, a 3& 4 year old group, and also a kindergarten class of 26 students. Talk about symmetry before you get started because they often have a symmetrical pattern when you open it up. I keep them folded into a triangle shape and let the colors bleed through. I use plastic trays but for the large groups I make trays from heavy duty aluminum foil and fold around the edges. Keep only one piece of newspaper (or none) in the tray as anything absorbant will pull the vibrant colors off the "snowflake" and they will become less vivid and bold in color. The 2's use the bingo markes bottles filled with Colorations liquid water colors, but only eye droppers for 3 and up; it is great for helping to develop their fine motor skills (and alot of fun!) I only use the Colorations Liquid water colors, the colors are so bright. If allowed, the kids will never stop! So encourage them to move to another project when paper is saturated to avoid one big dark blob or provide only 3-4 bright colors (and alot of yellow it mixes great with others) You can even add water to prevent the darker colors from becoming overdone. When completely dry, I tape them on the windows and we call them suncatchers. They dry surprisingly quick, and fold up so nicley so they can be packed up into the backpacks and taken home the same day! No two are ever exactly alike, and I explain that neither are we! So why should out art be!

Comments about Product
These large snowflakes were purchased for my daughter's 5th birthday party, which was art-themed. At first, this activity was ignored by many. But once someone started it, there was no looking back. Children, and especially adults, liked creating colorful snowflakes with the Bingo bottles and liquid watercolors. I was not sure about ordering the large-sized flakes and was going to buy the smaller sizes for the little kids, but now I'm glad I went with the big ones. They are enormous, absorbant and sturdy. Everyone got a kick out of this project, and it was a hit with all!

I am a trainer who gives child care providers ideas to use with the children that they work with. This product seems to be a big hit with them. They comment that they like the product and that they know the children would too. People think it is funny looking because it looks like a giant coffee filter and this seems to be appealing to them.
