Good value
25 years working with children and these are my favorite watercolors. They are a great value for the price, in my opinion. They last 20 times longer than old fashioned regular watercolors. I "LOVE" that they are removable from from the tray. For clean-up, I remove them from the trays and rince off t...he "pucks" as I call them. LOL. That brings the colors back alive, after kids have mixed colors. Then I wash off the base tray, and allow the pucks to dry on a piece of foil or wax paper. When dry, I put them back in the tray and they are like brand new. =)

Awful
Don't waste your money. These were dusty and chalky when dry and when wet, they gummed up the end of the brush and the chalk slurry (I hesitate to call it paint) was so thick it was a chore for an adult to get it off the end of the brush onto the paper. The result was disappointing in color and ...texture. There wasn't much pigment to the color and the texture was as if you'd smashed up chalkboard chalk and added water. We paint a lot, several times a week, and use all sorts of paints. These were the worst we ever tried. Even the tray is flimsy and cheaply made. When I bought these, I also bought the Colorations Cup and Tray Tempera Cakes- in contrast these were BRILLIANT! Smooth, highly pigmented color that even an adult would (and does!) enjoy painting with. The tray is sturdy and solid. Spend your money there. These are terrible. They might have the same name, but the paint is completely different.

Not as good as the Cup and Tray set...

We have the Colorations Cup and Tray set, and we love it, so I bought THIS set to give my kids greater color options...but these paints are very different from the Cup and Tray set. First, the tray with THIS set is quite flimsy...but worse than that, is the fact that the paint flakes off the paper after my child's artwork is dry. Chalky/dusty/flaky bits of paint everywhere. You can't touch, hang, or frame the finished work without a mess. This is not the case with the paints in the Cup and Tray set. Nothing rubs off the paper when they are dry, so why should the paints in THIS set, from the SAME company, be so different? Disappointing. :(

These are less messy than traditional tempera liquid paints. The mess depends on how much water the kids use. I love how easily contained they are and that when the paints are dry there is no chance of spilling paint in the art closet!

Great! I used this product to teach a Mixed Media class with a special education class. It was fabulous! I normally use water color paints - but this was awesome becasue they dried quickly and did not make a mess. They do not have the same properties as watercolors but they work just as well. I placed each cake in a small clear plastic punch type cup and the kids had easy access to each color. After they dried - I stored them in those same cups! What a hit!
