We made the bird houses as a Girl Scout craft. Super easy assembly worked well for a mixed age group. We worked on marbling and it worked perfectly.
Decorate before Assembly

Children may have a hard time decorating if you put it together first because it will not sit flat on the table due to tabs that stick out the bottom. Do any flat decorations (coloring, painting, stickers, etc) first and then do 3-dimensional additions after assembly. I was picturing something slightly larger, so do pay attention to dimensions.
