Just what I expected
I bought these for use on our light table after seeing them in several light-play blog posts. They are just what I hoped for. Both my 5yo and 2yo enjoy playing with them on our light table. My 5yo can read simple words I make with them or make our names or sight words with them. My 2 yo enjoys the w...ay they feel, dumping them out, and identifying the letters and colors. Some things you can do with them include suspending them in ice cubes, gluing to make art, pressing them into play dough or clay, sorting by letter/color into containers, using them to fill-in-the-blank on familiar words, matching, much more. These are fun and very open ended - the sky is the limit.

too tiny for preschoolers
Like everyone else who reviewed this product, I was assuming these letters would be the size of fridge magnet letters. They are actually quite tiny! Their actual size is clearly listed in the product description, so it's our fault for not noticing... but in our defense, the letters' actual size is s...o ridiculously small that they're hardly even useful. I feel like the target age for this type of product--letter identification and play with preschoolers--does not match the size of the letters. They are more suited for 1st or 2nd grade fingers, but a light table is not usually typical fare in those classrooms. Not to say that 1st & 2nd graders wouldn't love spelling words on a light table, but I think that's why all the purchasers are so surprised... because they are buying them for a much younger audience. The letters also seem a little cheaply made, in that you can see the rough places where they connected to the plastic before they were punched out at the factory. But the price is good and the quantity is great. It's so nice to be able to make multiple words at the same time because you have so many of each letter. :o) Oh, and the "I" is just a straight stick, instead of having the bars at the top and the bottom. This always annoys me, since it's not the way we teach children their letters. But the "H" turned on it's side works alright as a capital "I."

These were much smaller than I had imagined. I guess I need to read the size description and not just look at the pictures. I can make them work though.

The letters are MUCH smaller (only 3/4 in.) than in the image. Perhaps it was mentioned in the fine print, but I missed it! Not very easy for preschoolers to manipulate on a light table.
